Bath & Body Works Liplicious – Frozen Raspberry

Bath & Body Works Liplicious – Frozen Raspberry (US$7)

One merry day as I walked to the front desk (of my old workplace), I saw a co-worker sport this oh so delicious looking pouty lips! I immediately asked her what she is wearing. She gave me the Mona Lisa smile & whipped out this lip gloss out from her pocket 😀 No prizes for guessing what I did 😀 I got myself to the nearest Bath & Body Works to get this yummy-licious gloss 😀

You can see the color swatched here.

On my lips, this is a shiny ‘my lips but better’ pop of color. It’s a little shinier than what I’m used to since I like wearing lipsticks over glosses these days. The scent smells like a fruity starburst candy. Staying power is moderate.

Cons: The stickiness. Ewwww…… I gave my DH (Darling Husband) a kiss & he commented at how sticky my lips were & how his lips are sticky now! 😀 That makes two of us that didn’t like the stickiness of this gloss.

Conclusion: Thumbs down from me. The color is nice but it’s not worth the sticky lips.

* Purchased by myself. This color is discontinued but other colors can still be obtained from any Bath & Body Works store.

i.d. Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss – Wearable Berry & Wearable Wine

i.d. Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss – Wearable Berry & Wearable Wine

I purchased both as part of a wearable lip kit. Each kit consists of a lipstick, lipgloss & lip liner for US$30. Now you can get them at Bare Escentuals’ website for the mere cost of $9.50 here. Before you start your stampede, take some time to read through this post.

One thing I have to say, the wearable kit in berry is a huge ♥ of mine. It was one of my ‘go to’ lipstick & gloss prior to me amassing my current makeup stash. It truly was a wearable berry & my mom had taken it from me on more than a few occasions to wear it herself! 😀

The wine color on the other hand, is not so wearable. It’s definitely something that I reserved for special occasions due to the depth of the color.

One thing that’s stopping me from recommending these is that from my personal experience, Bare Escentuals lipsticks & lipglosses go rancid fast. When I say rancid, I am referring to the smell. I can’t recall how the brand new Bare Escentuals lipsticks & lipglosses smelled like, but I’m sure it’s not the crayon-ny scent that they are emitting now. As such, I am not able to give a review of it beyond the color as I am not putting them on my lips 😦

As for the lipliners, these are the automatic self sharpening type. Meaning that you just swivel them up & there is no need to sharpen them (look like pencil lead but berry colored). They’re nice. Staying power is moderate as I tend to layer gloss over them as the lipliner by itself seems very drying on my lips. They’re nice to have but are not ones that I would rebuy if I lose them.

* Purchased by myself & can be purchased for a huge discount on the Bare Escentual Website here

Tokidoki stuff from Comic-Con 2010

Tokidoki stuff from Comic-Con 2010

I am very lucky to have an amazing friend who messaged me from Comic-Con telling me that there is a stand selling Tokidoki stuff. For those that don’t know. I am a huge fan of Tokidoki! 😀

I admit to waffling over what I want & I am stupid. Because the tote bags sold out on the first day 😦 & some of the other stuff I wanted as well 😦 Oh well, there’s always Comic-Con 2010

Nonetheless, he managed to get me a bunch of stuff. One thing that I thought was kinda fun are the keychain/phone charms. You buy the box & the charm is unknown. You have to open the box & the black plastic bag to find out what you will get! Kinda like a mystery box! 😀

As for the dolls, I missed out on one! There are eight of them (four seems to be specially for Comic-Con since I don’t see them on Tokidoki’s website) but my friend only managed to get seven of them 😦

By the way, can you tell I really love Bastardino? 😀

Am really excited & just wanted to share my happiness! 😀

Lip Gloss Dupes?

Lip Gloss Dupes?

So I was doing a blog review of Bare Escentual Wearable Berry & Wine glosses & lipliners when I was reminded of how much I love the color of the Wearable Berry. Since I rounded up most of my glosses recently (to be reviewed/purged/kept), I decided to start swatching them 😀

As you can see, none of them is a exact dupe 😦 Revlon Colorstay Mineral LipGlaze – Forever Raisin 540 & NARS Dolce Vita probably came closest.

You are probably wondering why I want to have a dupe of a color I have already? *gives a Mona Lisa smile* I guess you just have to wait till tomorrow to know. 😀

Smashbox Double Exposure Lip & Cheek Color in Irresistible

Smashbox Double Exposure Lip & Cheek Color in Irresistible (US$24)

This seems to be another item that had been discontinued by Smashbox although you can find it online at a number of etailers for a fraction of the original cost.

Smashbox Smashbox Double Exposure Lip & Cheek Color is supposed to bring an instant flush to your lips and cheek. It is also stated as suitable for all skin tones. The color Irresistible is described as a warm melon shade.

In the pan, this looks coral than watermelon pink. In fact, once I started looking at this, I just felt like I had dupes of this. I promptly went to my blush drawer & found two blushes that looks similar to this. The first is Bobbi Brown Calypso Coral Pot Rouge. The second would be Kevyn Aucoin Moist Glow in Tansoleil.

Here are some comparison pics.

As you can see, BB Calypso Coral looks very similar to SB Irresistible. Kevyn Aucoin’s Tansoleil looks just a tad lighter.

Once you swatch the product, the difference is apparent immediately. Smashbox Irresistible has the sheerest pigmentation amongst them all. It also feels the most emollient amongst them. In terms of pigmentation (tested by just one swipe with my finger), Bobbi Brown Calypso Coral is the most pigmented followed by Kevyn Aucoin Tansoleil, & lastly, Smashbox Irresistible. This might be great if you want something that is sheerer & am worried about looking clownish.

In the second swatch, you can see that Smashbox Irresistible looks the shiniest.

In the third swatch, you can see that they all look some what similar 😀 at least to me. For the average consumer, you probably will not need all three blushes!

As you can see, this is really pretty once it’s sheered out. 😀 On my cheeks (I apply using my MAC 109 to dab in the blush, then on my cheek, then buff), it’s a pretty coral color. Staying power of this baby is good. Minimal fading on me even after seven to eight hours.

Conclusion: This will probably go into my purge pile. Although this is a pretty color, I don’t feel like I love this. Plus I am big on pigmentation so I will rather keep a pigmented product which I can sheer out 😀

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Creamliner – Green Eyes & Brown Eyes

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Creamliner (US$10.95)

I am trying to stop buying drugstore makeup. *crickets chirping*

Nothing wrong with them but my stash is getting to the point where I need to purge & show my mid end, high end & pro-line makeup some love. However, these gel liner sets will definitely stay in my stash because I love, love, love them & they can compete with any of my mid end gel liners! 😀

I got the set in green eyes & brown eyes. They come in blue eyes & hazel eyes as well. Each set is a set of three gel liners which are supposed to include a dramatic, a natural & a complementary look.

Each liner pot seems a smaller (.07oz each) when you compare it to gel liners like Bobbi Brown (.1oz), Shu Uemura (.098oz) or Clinique (.17 oz) but I actually like it that way. I have never finished a gel liner in my life so smaller is fine with me. Plus you get three colors for the price of $10.95 pre tax which comes up to $3.65 per color. That’s an amazing deal!

The texture is soft. Not too moist nor too dry. It goes on smoothly without any tugging (I use a fine point brush). I really like the design too! It stacks like lego blocks & reminds me of my childhood. The container is made of acrylic plastic instead of glass (Bobbi Brown & Shu Uemura) but that is okay with me since I drop my makeup items! In fact I just accidentally swept the brown eyes set off to the ground & they’re all fine! 😀

I feel that the texture is very similar to Bobbi Brown & Clinique’s gel liners. They are a little more moist compared to Shu Uemura painting liners. If you give me a blinded test between this & my Bobbi Brown/Clinique gel liners, I don’t think I can tell the difference! This is how good I think they are!

These swatches are done with one to two swipes. As you can see, it’s a very rich & pigmented liner. The black in each set comes with colored sparkles. The green eyes set has a black with green sparkles, the brown set (purple casing/why not brown? I don’t know) had a black with burple sparkles (blue/purple). However the sparkles are so fine that it’s not very obvious even when I swatched it on my arm. On your lids, it’s probably going to be non-existent.

Note: I normally only line my upper lash line (not tightlining) & almost never line my lower lash line. No waterlining for me.

Cons: Some smudging experienced at the end of the night. However in the hot summer months, almost everything smudges on me. It might be a tad hard to remove as well. I had to scrub a little to get the swatches off my arm (used oil cleanser too!).

Conclusion: A must have! It’s amazing for the price & after this post, I think I will go out & get the other two sets!

* Purchased by yours truly. These can be found at any drugstore that sells Physicians Formula as well as Ulta. I didn’t find these at my local Target even though they do sell Physicians Formula.
